Liz’s Bio:

For some photographers, a bio might not be too hard to write. It seems as if many folks begin by saying they always wanted to be a photographer. As for me, photography was the furthest thing from my mind.

Enter happenstance.

In the mid 1980s I bought a point-and-shoot film camera so I could take photos of my pets. Fast forward a few years to when I won a rose garden contest held by the Antelope Valley Press in Southern California, after which the home and garden section editor convinced me to profile other gardens for the newspaper.

I still had only my point-and-shoot film camera for my first story and photos. Then came another story, and another…well, you get the picture.

In order for me to really get the picture, or pictures, I bought an SLR camera, and learned on the fly to write and shoot.

Writing and illustrating one story after another, it didn’t take long to become a full-time journalist.

Becoming a full-time photographer is an even whackier story. A friend of mine who supplied power and did the photography for a concert series produced by City of Palmdale, California, had some powerful problems a day before the concert and wanted to know if I could take over his photography duties at the concert.

Okay…no experience, but why not?

I photographed a Tom Jones concert – the stage, crowd shots and meet-and-greet photos. Before the concert, I shot a separate photo of Tom Jones, and wrote a sidebar for the newspaper.

After that I shot another concert, and another, then events for City of Palmdale. Soon I shot events and activities for neighboring City of Lancaster as well, and then became the photographer for the Antelope Valley Fair and other fairground events.

Add to that the events produced by High Desert Medical Group, and, for a few years was the team photographer for the Lancaster JetHawks minor league baseball team.

Also, there was a publication we named Hallways that husband Rich and I produced for Antelope Valley Union High School District.

For nearly two decades I was fortunate to have a career as an event photographer and photojournalist, including Lifestyle Magazine published by the Antelope Valley Press, the same newspaper where it all began.

During the years I lived in southern California’s high desert, I discovered much beauty to photograph – spectacular sunrises and sunsets, Joshua trees, wildflowers and wildlife.

Now retired, Rich and I photograph nature’s beauty in places like Alaska, Canada, Costa Rica, Iceland, Trinidad & Tobago, Utah, Montana, Massachusetts and my home state of Florida where we live.

It is with the same gratitude and enthusiasm from the very beginning, that I introduce my photos in a different venue.
